The Film 'Together' Can Be Streamed, and It Has the Power to Test Your Romantic Bond.

Here's a challenge for partners in committed relationships who enjoy scary movies: Get comfortable with your significant other and watch Together. The critically acclaimed 2025 movie has now made its streaming debut via Hulu. Outwardly, it may seem like typical biological terror, but inside Together resides a profound examination about how we choose to love our partners.

A Debut Feature Investigating Relationship Dynamics

Together is the first full-length movie for director Michael Shanks. It showcases actors Alison Brie and Dave Franco as Millie and Tim, a pair who are not married that have been together for a decade. United in marriage in reality in 2017, the two stars bring a unique chemistry to their portrayals, skillfully embodying both the good and bad of a long-term relationship.

The narrative commences when Tim and Millie transition from the metropolis to the rural area for Millie’s job. A commonly used narrative setup, of course, but that’s primarily where the cliches cease. Together evolves into as much a examination of mental states of the couple's dynamic as it is a body horror flick.

An Otherworldly Trigger

While trekking near their rural residence, a violent storm occurs, and the protagonists fall into an underground cave. After being trapped overnight there and managing to escape, a strange force starts to affect the couple. This force compels a paranormal intimacy between them that goes far beyond typical partnership.

The complete narrative is a gradually intensifying fright fest, weaving in moments of dreamlike terrors, unsettling (but not excessively graphic) physical transformations, and genuinely funny interactions (sometimes amidst something grotesque). Shanks orchestrates these parts seamlessly and wraps them up in a consistently growing sense of impending doom.

Layered Performances

A significant portion of Together is exclusively the two lead actors, and they masterfully render numerous complexities to the partnership at the film's core. Her self-assurance and feeling of intimacy is suffering due to a lack of intimacy. Her unspoken irritation of Tim for his reluctance to pursue anything but his failing musical ambitions gradually emerges.

In contrast, Tim's character senses confinement and cut off by Millie, who’s the reason they’ve moved to the country and far away from his network of friends. He fears the idea of utterly sacrificing his personal autonomy in another person. This fear is further exacerbated by the fact he lacks a driver's license and needs Millie for mobility.

The film's most intelligent aspect in this movie avoids making one partner or the other the obvious villain.

Both characters grapple with the type of challenges that come with long-term unions after ten years. At their core, they still love each other. They still laugh together, offer support, and open up at times. But under the surface, there’s an unavoidable undercurrent of doubt about their bond.

Allegory and Meaning

While the paranormal elements in Together act as a metaphor for these anxieties of codependency and fully committing to a partner, the allegory does not come across as overly obvious or self-important. Instead, these ickier, creepier moments provide a brilliant analogue to the interpersonal storytelling. Both the supernatural and the personal serve the other in a mutually beneficial way.

A Divisive Ending

Together’s conclusion, which won’t be spoiled here, has sparked debate on the story's concluding statement about codependent relationships. It has been said that those not in relationships have seen the movie as a strong argument for staying single. On the other hand, some couples who were in conflict found that the film ultimately assisted them make up.

If you are alone or with a partner, your own interpretation could potentially serve as a telling indicator of how you view relationships. Will the finale sow anxiety and horror, or a heartwarming sense of hope? Will you identify in either protagonist and scream at your TV, or simply glance toward your significant other and utter, “We could get through that together”?

No matter your reaction, Together is an experiment you can embark on today.

Together is currently playing on the streaming service Hulu as of this moment.
